- Tape measure
- Miter saw
- Cordless drill/ Corded drill
- Forstner drill bits
- Orbital sander
- Safety glasses / you might use pink safety glasses, kidding!.
We have used the following material of specified dimension:
- Four diameter dowels for feet (3/4-in. x 3/4-in.)
- Three maple boards (20-in. x 3-1/2-in.)
- Two walnut strips for the handle (23-1/2-in. x 1/2-in. x 3/4-in.)
- Two dowels for handles (5-in. x 1/2-in.-diameter)
You can change the dimension or if you want you can use material of the same dimension.
How to Make a Wooden Tray?
Step 1: Mark the Curve
Take the drill bit for wood and drill 1/2-in. holes centered 3/4 in. from the end part of the walnut strips. Then clamp the 5 boards lightly and scribe the arcs on the ends. If you do not clamp the boards it will be difficult for you to mark the curve.
Step 2: Assemble the Parts
Saw and sand along the marked lines of the board and assemble all the parts together using glue and woodworking clamps except the dowel handles.
Step 3: Final Touch
Unclamping and sanding both sides drill a hole of ¼-inch depth and ¾ inch diameter. Then attach the feet and dowel handles using glue. Finally, wipe it with Butcher Block Oil and your simple designed wooden tray is ready to serve food.
Project 2: Wooden Shoe Rack
Wooden shoe rack project will take no more than 1 hour to accomplish.
All you need for this project include:
- 4 x 4-ft. a sheet of 3/4-in. plywood
- A handful of 8d finish nails
How to Make a Wooden Shoe Rack?
Step 1: Cutting
At first, cut the pieces of plywood according to the measurement.
Step 2: Gluing and Nailing
Then spread the glue on the joints and nail the joints together with the available 8d finish nails. It is recommended to nail through the sides into the back at first and then nail through the top into the sides and back.
Step 3: Final Touch
Mark the location of the two shelves and nail through the sides into the shelves and your self-made wooden shoe rack is ready.
Project 3: Wooden Bench for Outdoor Sitting
This is another simple but creative project. Here creativity is in the orientation of the wood. After going through the working steps you will understand it clearly.
This project will take a couple of hours to accomplish. Before starting the main task gather the following equipment:
- Two boards of (2×8×10) ft. and (2×8×8)ft. dimension
- 18 screws
How to Make a Wooden Bench?
Step 1: Cutting
At first, make the legs of the bench. For this purpose, cut at 22-1/2-degree angle of a (2×8×10) ft. board. Repeat the process five times to make a total of 4 legs. Then cut the seat from (2×8×8)ft. board.
Step 2: Making the Assembly
Align the seat and leg pieces just like the image for assembling. To join the legs use construction adhesives and 3 2-1/2-in. deck screws. It is better to pre-drill all the screw holes with the aid of a countersink bit.
Step 3: Finishing Task
Now you have to set the sides parallel to each other and glue and screw the seat with the back into place. Finally, give the finishing touch by coating the bench with exterior oil or stain.
Project 4: Wooden Magazine Storage Container
To archive your collection of magazines, a wooden magazine storage container can be the best solution. It will be unique and long-lasting. To start this project you need to gather the following tools beforehand:
- Circular saw
- Cordless drill
- Drill bit set
- Air compressor
- Air hose
- Brad nail gun
- 5-gallon bucket
- Orbital sander and
- Safety glasses
The following materials are required to make your wooden magazine container:
- 2 x 4-ft. a sheet of 1/4-in. plywood
- Two 6-ft.-long 1x4s
How to Make Wooden Magazine Storage Container?
Step 1: Marking the Cutting Line
Take the ¼ in. plywood and cut it into eight 11-1/2-in. × 11-in. pieces. The most difficult part of making a wooden magazine storage container is making its S- curve.
But if you follow strategy every difficult work becomes easier. Now I am going to tell you the strategy of making graceful S- curve easily. Pick the 5-gallon bucket and with the aid of it draw the S-curve from the 11-1/2-in.-high corner to a 6-in. mark on the opposite side smoothly like the following picture:
Step 2: Cut along the Drawn Lines
You can cut each piece separately but that is not the best strategy. To make your work flawless stack the pairs together with tape so the best sides face each other. Then start cutting along the drawn line with the jigsaw or band saw.
Step 3: Nail the Cut Pieces
Now it is time to saw the pine boards into 3 different lengths – 6 inches, 9-1/2 inch, and 11-1/2 inch. Then drill finger pulls of 1-inch diameter in the pieces of 6-inch dimension and nail both the frames together. Finally, nail the sides to the frames with 1-inch finish nails, sand those and apply a finish.
Project 5: Wooden Wine Rack
A simple, chic wine rack really looks classy. If you do not drink wine you can DIY it to gift your friends and family.
All you need for this project include:
- Scrap plywood
- Simple wood box or crate
- Table saw
How to Make Wooden Wine Rack?
Step 1: Take Measurement and Start Cutting
At first, take the measurement of the wood crate along the diagonal and then check the depth of the crate. Then cut down the piece of extra plywood to fit both the measurements.
Now notice that the long piece of plywood is able to go from one corner to the other inside the crate. Adjust your table saw and cut each end of the plywood at forty-five degrees angle. The point you have formed now will fit into the corners of the crate. Now use the second piece of plywood, cut its end so that it sits firmly with one corner of the crate and the centerpiece of plywood. To make a beautiful wine rack creating the shape at each end without losing too much length is important.
Step 2: Stain the Wood
Now it is time to stain the wood but before staining, if you have to wipe it gently with a cloth so that no dirt stays on it and stain can adhere to the wood properly. After cleaning it properly start staining.
If you want a light-colored wine box you have to give only a single coat. On the other hand, if you want a deep color you have to give double coat but before giving the second coat you need to wipe down the excessive stain. You can also paint the wood instead of staining if you want. After completing staining let it dry for overnight.
Step 3: Insert the Wood Pieces
After drying insert the wood pieces into their intended spots. The advantage of this project is that if you can cut the wood pieces well enough you do not need to use glue to hold those in place, they will fit properly by their own. And your wooden wine rack is ready to organize your wine bottle.

Step 2: Frame Making
Now pick up the miter box and cut a 45-degree angle on each end of the piece of the frame. Use glue and nail to hold the frame together.
Step 3: Frame Filler Making
Now it is time to make some small wooden piece to fill the inside of the frame. Placing the angle piece tight against the side mark the other end and with the aid of the miter box cut another 45-degree angle.
Again use glue and nail to hold the pieces together. Repeat this step until the frame is filled with these wooden pieces.
